Isn’t riding a motorcycle in South Asia crazy dangerous? I just got my license last year and don’t want to drive through rivers and over mountain passes.
Well you’ve made it this far so obviously you skew adventurous. We have rides to suit all skill levels and you’ll never be asked to do anything you feel uncomfortable with.
I’ve heard about Delhi Belly and like to keep my belly as it is. How do I deal with this?
The secret is to drink only bottled water, don’t eat salads unless you’re at a high-end hotel and eat as much local food as you can. Do this and you’ll be right as rain.
Don’t I need a stack of documents to fly to these countries? Sounds like a ton of aggro.
8 ounces of docs, to be exact. A passport with at least 6 months of validity and a visa (we can help with this) is all you need for the nice immigration lady to say ‘welcome.’
I’m a bit of an old dude/gal. How do we more ‘experienced’ riders fare on your expeditions?
Fact: 57% of our followers are in the 45-64 age group! (including the old codger writing this FAQ). We welcome all ages and factor the ride skill of the group into our daily route planning. Get out there!
What’s with all the dudes on your website? I’m a chick and ride with my chick friends. How do you provide for the ladies?
Only 25% of motorbike riders are women. We want to change that. Our Women’s Only Rides are precisely that. No dudes allowed, accept for our sweet mechanic guy.
What’s the deal with all of these weird ride types? Cultural Cruiser? Avid Explorer? Road Warrior? WTF? That doesn’t mean anything to me.
Each expedition has a very different terrain so we have created the following classifications:
• Cultural Cruiser - Relatively flat terrain with no off-roading.
• Avid Explorer - Hilly or mountainous terrain with limited off-roading for those who want it.
• Road Warrior - Mountainous terrain and some mandatory off-roading sections, eg. gravel & dirt roads, some streams.
All of our rides can be handled by a rider with limited to no off-road experience. You will be amazed at what you are capable of.
My wife is the biker in the family. I just want to ride pillion. Can I come along or do I have to stay home with the cats?
We welcome all pillion riders and have special pricing just for you! And if your wife decides she wants to get some off-road air, you can ride in the truck with our sweet mechanic.
My diet usually consists of Big Macs and fish & chips. Will I find any foods that I like?
See Delhi Belly reference, above. Adventure travel is about experiencing new things and our team will help you navigate the fab flavours of South Asia.
I thought Royal Enfield made weapons. Are you suggesting I ride a cannon around Asia??
Royal Enfield, originally a British manufacturer of guns and bikes, was established in India in 1955. Our primary bike is the new Himalayan 450 although we also use Bullets in Sri Lanka and Hondas in Thailand. All are great for new and experienced riders and are designed to take on the worst that Asia’s roads can dish out.
I have a lot of money. Can you explain how I can give it to you? What if I want it back? Also, do I need to bring a sack full of cash with me?
Our detailed terms and conditions can be popped into an email upon request, but suffice to say we make it very easy to part with your money. All bookings are made via WeTravel and there you can pay via card or bank transfer. If your plans change, we will work with you. We are bikers, not an airline, and we want our clients to like us. As far as cash, ATMs, CashPoints, Geldautomaten..whatever you call them, they exist all over in Asia.
You guys babble a lot about ‘Heritage’ and “Best Class’ hotels? What's all that then?
Good question! This is one of the things that makes us different. We select top hotels and guest houses wherever we go. ‘Heritage’ hotels are a class that are historically significant. Our policy is that we select the best, most characterful hotels wherever we go.
I’m a Harley guy. Is it ok if I wear my leather chaps or is there something more appropriate you can recommend?
Um, whatever floats your boat, mate. But we recommend synthetic jackets and pants with armor from companies like Revit, Klim, Dainese, etc. This stuff breathes, is abrasion resistant and semi or fully waterproof. Full-face helmets are recommended.
I like to crash. A lot. What happens when that happens?
Then you’re trying! Well done! On bikes as in life, shit happens. All of the spills we’ve witnessed on the road are usually the ‘low side’ variety, ie the front wheel washes out on gravel or sand. When this happens, have a chuckle, pick up your bike and ride on! (we are glad to assist in this process). For anything more eventful, our team are trained in first aid and we have a first aid kit in the truck if some patching up is needed. We also keep track of local emergency services contacts and location info during each morning pre-ride briefing.
OK, I get it. You guys are baller (awesome). But why should I use TWE when there are so many fabulous companies out there?
We hope we’ve convinced you by now but here are a few things to take away: • Our expeditions are all-inclusive except for booze. You pay extra for nothing. No hidden BS. • We stay and eat at the best places on each route. • We make you look like a rock star with a staff media team. • We are an Anglo-American company so you can expect an English-speaking crew and guests on our rides. • We recognize that not everyone is a Paris-Dakar star. We cater to people who want to have the experience of a lifetime but survive to tell the tale.
I have read a lot about DMCs. Isn't that a rap band?
Yes, Run DMC is a highly successful 80's hip-hop act, but DMC also stands for Destination Management Company. These are agents who operate tours in a country on behalf of the 'front end' company. TWE never uses DMCs and never will. DMCs may allow a company to expand quickly, but they also sacrifice a company's soul. All TWE tours will be led by TWE guides every time.
